About Fabiana
Storyteller and photographer
Fabiana Galcerán was born in Buenos Aires. Her interest in art and culture led her to train in a range of disciplines: she studied photography at the Foto Club Argentino and graduated as a teacher of piano and music theory from the Conservatorio Williams. She also took courses in ancient history at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Her passion for languages has accompanied her along the way: she speaks English and Italian.
As part of her literary training, she completed the Narrative Writing program at Casa de Letras and was enriched by a range of courses and workshops taught by renowned authors such as José María Brindisi, Ariel Bermani, Pablo de Santis, Fernanda García Lao, Hugo Correa Luna, Mariano Ducros and Pedro Mairal, among others.
She has contributed to short-story anthologies in Argentina and abroad. She has two children. She currently lives in Buenos Aires.
She is the author of the novel The House of Whispers and the short-story collection La versatilidad de las cosas, both published by Ediciones Diotima, and of the historical novel El revés del abanico, selected for the catalog of HQÑ, an imprint of HarperCollins Ibérica.
Her stories are born from dreams, from travels and from family memory. “If stories come to me, it is because I am waiting for them,” she says, quoting Cortázar: a kind of medium who receives them. Time, mystery, travel and hidden lives are her narrative territory.
Photography is her other way of telling stories: her travels give rise to postcards and tales, like the faun of Villa Durazzo who still murmurs among the pages of The House of Whispers. Her photographs can be seen on Unsplash and at @f.o.t.o_u.r.b.a.n.a.

I thought she might be one of those characters who repeat the same gestures every day, unaware that, on the other side of a fogged-up pane of glass, someone is about to turn them into literature.
